Auto glass services in Reno

Every piece of glass on your vehicle.

Rock chip repair, windshield replacement, side and back glass, sunroofs and mirrors, for everything from a commuter car to an 18-wheeler.

Rock chip repair

A small chip can usually be filled with resin, which stops it spreading and saves the original windshield. It costs far less than a replacement, and many insurance policies cover it with no deductible.

Best done early, before a cold morning turns it into a crack.

Windshield replacement

When a crack runs too long or sits right in the driver’s view, we replace the windshield with Pilkington, PPG or OEM glass, installed with a tight seal against leaks and backed by our warranty on parts and labor.

Side windows & back glass

Side and back windows are tempered glass. When they break, they shatter into small pebbles, so they’re replaced rather than repaired. Call with the year, make and model and we’ll quote the right glass.

Sunroofs

Cracked or shattered sunroof glass, replaced with the right panel for your vehicle.

Side & rear-view mirrors

Cracked mirror glass replaced, so you can see what’s beside and behind you again.

Windshield leaks

Water getting in around the glass? Sometimes a leak can be sealed without a new windshield, like the Tacoma a customer brought in: we found the leak in moments and sealed it.

Trucks, RVs & heavy equipment

Glass for pickups, 18-wheelers, RVs and motorhomes, construction equipment and farm equipment. Big rigs and big machines need clear glass too.

Anatomy of a windshield

Why a chip can be repaired.

Your windshield is two sheets of glass with a tough plastic layer between them. That sandwich is what lets us fix a chip instead of replacing the whole thing.

  1. Outer glassTakes the rocks, the hail and the weather.
  2. Plastic interlayer (PVB)A tough film bonded between the two sheets. It holds the glass together when it breaks, so a chip stays a chip and can often be repaired.
  3. Inner glassThe side you see from the driver’s seat.
  4. Frit bandThe black border and fading dots. It hides the bond that holds the windshield in, and shields that bond from the sun.
  5. The “bug”The maker’s stamp in the corner: brand, safety rating (AS1 means windshield grade) and codes that identify the glass.

Two kinds of auto glass

Laminated or tempered: why it matters.

Laminated: your windshieldTwo sheets of glass with a plastic layer between them. It cracks, but it stays in one piece, which is why chips and short cracks can often be repaired.
Tempered: side and back windowsHeat-treated to break into small, blunt pebbles instead of sharp shards. Safer when it breaks, but it can’t be repaired: it gets replaced.

The quarter test

Not sure what you need? Ask a quarter.

Four quick questions, and a drawing of your chip or crack at actual size next to a quarter or a dollar bill.

01 Which glass?
02 What happened to it?
Slide until the drawing matches yours: chips next to a quarter, cracks next to a dollar bill.

Likely a repair

Good news: that sounds repairable

A chip smaller than a quarter can usually be filled with resin, which stops it spreading and keeps your original windshield. Many policies cover chip repair with no deductible: check yours.

A rule of thumb, not a diagnosis. We look at every chip and crack in person before recommending a repair or a new windshield.
